Prayers
Heavenly Father, You inflamed the compassionate heart of Mother Mary Theresa with the heroic virtues of charity and mercy. If it is Your will, may she be declared Blessed for Your honor and glory and may she inspire others to imitate her love for the needy, poor, and suffering of our world. This we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Venerable Servant of God, Mother Mary Theresa, during your lifetime you practiced great charity and later wrote: “I felt the misery and suffering of others and was constantly occupied with the thought of how I could be of service to the needy and the poor.” I, who venerate you, come to you for help. Venerable Servant of God, Mother Mary Theresa, beg for me at the throne of God, for this, my special intention (mention petition) through Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, you have enriched your Church with a religious family, the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago. Give us the grace to reject the goods of this world and to direct our desires to heavenly things. We ask your mercy; forgive us our sins. Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all your saints, especially St. Francis of Assisi, keep us your faithful servants, our families, relatives, friends, and benefactors in constant holiness. Cleanse us from our sins and adorn us with virtue. Grant us peace and salvation. Deliver us from our enemies, seen and unseen. Help us to overcome our bodily desires. Provide us with healthful air and fertile land. Support our friends with love; look kindly upon our enemies. Keep our country, Chicago our city, and all the faithful who live here from flood, famine, fire, war, and especially from loss of faith in you.
